Deceptive Adulthood
Over on Steemit, another blogger used Rory's Story Cubes to create a poetry challenge. I used the symbols on the dice to create the poem below, and posted it in response to that contest, but I thought I should perhaps share it here as well.
I decided to use nine syllables per line, and almost managed to have each line alternate between stressed and unstressed syllables, with each ending word stressed. The last two lines break this pattern, but I think it actually adds to the tone of the poem now that I have had time to ponder it.
Deceptive Adulthood
Locked away by time, the bloom of youth,
Dice are cast, life's choices saw them rolled.
Legends cast aside as if untruth,
Castles just a memory of old.
Modern towers now stand in their place,
Sad "reality" now dominates,
Balance is replaced by the rat race,
Mind decays as "adulthood" mandates.
