Auction Finds - South African Police
Due to the high crime rate in South Africa it is absolutely illegal to sell any SAPS insignia or clothing, even many of the vintage items, like buttons and badges. Frustratingly, I get heaps of those items, despite it being illegal for SAPS to carelessly discard their old uniforms and insignia. Fortunately I have a customer (turned friend) who I can give all those items to, as he is creating a private SAPS museum. I can sell anything SAPS related which cannot be used to impersonate a police officer.
My husband was thrilled to find these police medals in a table lot of goods. He estimates he paid about R30 ($2) for them. I have received a bid for R495 ($37) already, but I am hoping to make more as there are multiple users watching the listing.
I also have a police certificate and this fantastic large original photo of a SAPS helicopter for sale.
The vast majority of SAPS related items I sell are souvenirs, such as clocks, mirrors, glasses, crockery and cutlery being the most common.
