Fire and the full moon... somewhere in South Africa

On the weekend we had a little brush fire opposite our house. This is very common place for winter in the interior of South Africa. We are surrounded by veld (long dry grass) where we live, and each year it burns. It also happened to be full moon which made for a wonderfully spooky atmosphere.

On the edge of our property we have a thatched roof structure called a lapa, and we are on tenterhooks until the veld has burned. We have to be home so we can wet the thatch and check it doesn't catch alight when the adjacent empty land is burning. I have noticed the wind is starting to pick up daily now, which increases the fire danger. I saw the farmers burning more fire breaks in the hills today, so they expect the major fires soon.
