Sometimes all we need is a little rain, some thoughts on love

 The term unconditional love is a little trite, I think. There are conditions to my love, though not many. Mostly you must not be a complete asshole. I've been very lucky and have been surrounded by amazing people all my life.

Love should be forgiving, but we should realise not everything can be forgiven. I've often imagined myself in the place of the parents of say, serial killers. I don't think the love I have for my children will survive an unforgivable act intact? I can't say for sure until it happens to me, so there is no judgement in that statement.

I have witnessed the betrayal of a friend last week. Some of us have more difficult paths to travel and it is really hard to travel with someone on their rocky road. The thing is, I have met many people who through their continual bad decisions, live from from one drama to the next. My sympathy quickly evaporates when my advice is asked for, and falls on deaf ears. But in the case of my friend, I see a strong person, who is willing to listen to and implement advice. Ironically my friend is not much in need of advice. 

Some people have much more difficult paths to travel. A few years ago I realised what I think might be my purpose in life. I am a mom. Not only to my children, but to those special souls who cross my path and don't need anything more from me than my love and acceptance. Which is everything. I am not a cookie cutter mom. I can be lazy, I swear, and am generally inappropriate because it is fun. My love is also not unconditional, but when you have it, you know you have it.
