Rosaceae shrub, can grow up to 5 m, sometimes more when climbing in the crowns of other trees. It has many spiny stems, with curved, small and sharp spines, which help the plant climb, but also have a defensive role. The leaves are pendulous, with 5-7 leaflets, the flowers have 5 pink petals, sometimes darker, sometimes white, small fruit, red-orange, thin pulp and an interior of seeds and beans.
Eglantine is a well-known medicinal plant. It is recommended by alternative medicine for the treatment of colds, flu, infections and gastritis. The syrup is good as a cure for cough relief.

Fruits can be prepared as paste, marmalade, jelly, syrup, liquor, wine, meat sauces and even soups.
