Aristolochia arborea is a small rainforest tree which is strongly threatened at its natural location.
The flowers are formed at the foot of the stem directly above the soil.
In the middle of the red-brown blossom a perfect imitation of a hat mushroom with bright stalk is formed.
The white surface on the flower is surprisingly good for a mushroom braid.The flowers are likely to be dusted by fungus smears which usually deposit their eggs in mushrooms.

When the mushroom stage is covered, the small mosquitoes fall through a small narrow opening into a so-called kettle trap, where they are trapped until the flowering of the flower.
In doing so, they bump into the sticky scars and transmit any pollen brought along. The seeds are carried away by ants.
