DAV - The digital future of transportation industry
REVIEW
So what is a DAV? DAV is a decentralized, open-source network for Autonomous vehicles. It will enable its users to rent Autonomous vehicles such as aircraft, cars and even boats for business tasks and other different types of consumer tasks.
DAV provides a framework for communication between the vehicle and the person, vehicle and vehicle to the service provider (e.g. charging station). An interesting point is that the vehicles will be able to detect each other and pay for their services.
For example: due to the distance between the restaurant and your house the drone communicates via a network to a charging station where it lands to refuel. The drone pays the charging station autonomously and continues with the delivery. When you receive your food the payment to the drone is automatically transacted.
All of the transactions on the platform will be paid for using the native token of the network, DAV.
Next, we'll take a brief look at David's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT).
The main strengths of the project
To begin with, it is necessary to read the Advisory list. To be honest-it is impressive and contains a lot of people who can have a good reputation. Let's take a look at some expert advisors:
- Dr. Alan Messer - Former CT of General Motors
- Dr. Scott Horowitz - Former NASA astronaut and aerospace expert
- George D. Zamka - FAA Executive and former NASA astronaut
- Jerome Ferguson - Director of Autonomous Systems at UPS
- Biren Gandhi - Former Head of Drone Business at Cisco
- Sai Yagnyamurthy - Director of Corporate Strategy at Ford Motor Company
The DAV team is large and has a breadth of experience although they are lacking somewhat in blockchain and tech skills. The advisor set is full of all-stars including experts from the automotive industry (GM), NASA, Ethereum, SAP, FAA, UPS, Cisco, Ford, and IBM.
- CEO is Noam Copel , Co-Founder of MetaCafe.
- CTO Tal Ater, Former VP of Product Management at Somoto Inc.
- CCO John Frazer, External Relations Lead for Ethereum Foundation
The team is also highly supported by a large group of open source contributors. At the moment, the development team has completed important stages of the project and the network is planned to be launched in may 2018, before the sale of tokens. Completed stages:
- Completion of the application of delivery drones.
- A complete stand alone test selfie of the boat
- The first automated delivery of drones and negotiations.
OPPORTUNITIES
The main focus and focus of DAW is on the niche, which has all the chances to grow into a trillion-dollar industry in the near future. The project aims to acquire part of the passenger economy (Uber, Lift, etc.), an Autonomous automotive ecosystem, as well as a small but important segment of the supply chain.
The most difficult and resource-intensive part of deliveries is the" last mile", which is about 55% of the total cost of delivery. DAV will be ready to provide a network for their cars to communicate with as companies begin to learn methods of automating this part of their delivery business.
The main threats of the project
The two main problems that a development team may face are reliance on infrastructure and competition in the market.
Charging stations, Parking spaces and storage spaces are the main things that will need to be built in order for DAV to succeed. The cost of this infrastructure should be subsidized by partners, an incentive system or users who want to be rewarded for their contribution to the network.
Partnerships will play a major role here. DAV will need to work hard to ensure a strong partnership that promotes the expansion of Autonomous vehicle infrastructure in target cities around the world.
Competition is a different type of threat because there is currently no competition. There's a lot of blockchain projects that focus on EVE or devices for communications devices, but none focused on vehicles.
The Roadmap
This is a huge project with an ambitious roadmap that starts small and ends with building and incentivizing DAV cities. The DAV team has already completed early milestones including the first smart contract deployment and the first drone delivery that was completely negotiated and executed autonomously. In the short term future, the network is planning to launch in May 2018, autonomous vehicle charging begins in Q3 2018, the first boat mission is targeted to be completed in Q3 '18 and the first vehicle to vehicle communication conducted in Q4 '18.Establishing the basic foundation for individual identities, communication, discovery, and payment is key to the future development of DAV.
Overall
DAV is an ambitious project with lofty yet realistic goals. It is addressing a need that has not yet fully developed but in doing so will provide itself lead time to develop the framework and infrastructure that the future will require.
