Being A Christian
Lot's of westerners don't believe in God. England and America were founded on godly principles but their constitutions have been so amended that, God is no more a part of it. On the average, Africans are very religious and Ghana is no exception. Ghana has more churches than any other country in West Africa with just a population of 30 million.
What I've noticed about lots of Ghanaians who've traveled from Ghana to Europe and the West is a decrease in their "religiousness". I see that more often with Christians than with Moslems but you notice a change in their beliefs if you knew them before they travelled.
In Ghana, we pray for rain (water), for electricity, for food, internet connection, for good leaders and many other things. When same person travels outside and realises that water comes quite easy. Electricity is available almost always. Food Is available and relatively cheap.
Internet is readily available and really fast. I remember buying a 4G MiFi for a download and the highest speed I got was 2Mbps. That's pretty fast as compared to what I get on average which is about 100Kbps. The highest I ever got on 3G was 700Kbps on a rainy day and I don't really what got into the network that day.
Africa has the best when it comes to resources. With regard to human resource, Africa has the youngest population with strong and intelligent men and women with many of them not working or don't know what to do. They keep praying for good leaders to put measures in place to make life a bit better for them.
Foreigners who set up businesses in Ghana get a tax pass for up to 7 years whiles Ghanaians got to pay text whenever they start a business. When a Ghanaian prays for a job that pays 30$ a month and then travels to the West and gets paid more than that in a day. He no longer sees the need to pray or believe in God for a better paying job.
Comforts reduces the need to pray to a deity. What you gonna pray about. Most people pray to ask for something and everything you probably will want to ask for, you could probably get it through your own efforts. Even in the urban areas of Ghana, people are getting less religious by the day.
If there was a loving God, why is there so much suffering, sickness and bad things. That's a whole different topic. If you ever lived in an environment and seen supernatural things happening, difficult not to believe in God. If you live in an area where tech rules, then it makes it difficult to believe in God.
