Video of my D.I.Y. 450 Quadcopter build in FPV Test flight.
This is my 450 quadcopter. Built for Photography and video.
I got into quads and multi-rotors about 1.5 years ago.
I started researching and looking at buying a quad. The phantom looked good but out of my price range, also there is only so much you can upgrade it. And its expensive.
I discovered people making 450's (450mm is the distance between each rotor) and found that it would cost less than a phantom but be far better. and i could buy the parts bit by bit making it easier for me to afford.
The phantom is a 350 and is smaller so is more agile and less stable. It can't be upgraded as much as a D.I.Y. 450.
And tbh is not as good as a 450.
And i like to build things and take on new projects.
I'm not new to tech and use to build custom pc's and mining rigs. so i was confident i could learn to make 1.
Mind you the learning curve can be steep with this stuff. some things took me ages to learn.
At 1 point i thought i'd bitten off more than my i can chew lol.
The best bit of imformation i saw while researching was an article on a 450 build, it said 'whatever you do, don't build and attempt to fly this drone if you have no experience. buy a toy first, like the hubsan x4'
Im glad i took that advice because when i first flew the hubsan in the house (its a very small quad) it crashed straight into the wall and broke the props lol. i went through all the props in a day lol.
I had to then order packs of props before i could fly it again. Even so i couldnt wait to fly it again.
1 thing to mention is even the toys can hurt u when they hit your arm or face. i had little scartch marks on my arms, like i'd been attacked by a cat. My friend cut his nose by flying it into his face lol.
Now i saw the advantage of postponing my build and learning to fly. i imagined what it would have been like if i'd built the 450 and crashed it first go, or smashed it into myself or someone else.
So if u are going to build 1 or buy an off the shelf expensive 1 then take heed and buy a few toys first.
I have a hubsan x4 standard and a D.I.Y. hubsan x4 with fpv cam. I also have a syma X1 which i totally recommend for beginners, its more stable than the hubsan and doesnt cut u lol, i have had mine 8 months and havn't broken a prop yet.
