Post-Stream Summary (05/07/20)

[Preamble]
And that's it for another stream! Things went somewhat well, but not everything worked how I expected, although equally, given that I'm coming back to streaming after a 9-month hiatus, I need to get back into the swing of things, though I also need to tweak stuff to make things work better. I'm moving in the right direction with my scheduling, but I need to allocate more time. Additionally, I want to change my streaming layout some more as well as integrating notifications with my setup too, as well as making sure that things are standardised across Linux and Windows with regards to overlays, which also means it's time to roll some new ones out too, ones that'll look a bit better, although I might keep the colouring of my current theme, though we'll see what happens as time goes on.

Anyway, let's talk about the games now.

[Starter Game Summary - Game name]
As far as Barony went, it was pretty average overall, though I had a few stupid deaths, not helped by the fact that my healing potions were out of my finger-reach, so I've now moved the potions to 4 and scrolls to 5 (or left them there) from their former positions of 6 and 7, so hopefully, that'll make things a bit easier in the future. Likewise, I've moved the food and torch to 6 and 7, as I don't need them as frequently as I'd need easier access to potions during a fight, especially with WASD movement!

Hopefully, we'll make some better progress next week, but we'll see. Lastly, I'm going to essentially stop progressing as far as I do within a map, so what I'll do is finish off a map, then save it just before I go down to the next floor, so I can continue to the main game. This is what I'll be doing in the future, as I need to make sure that I get through the main game so I can clear it closer to when I intend to!

[Main Game Summary - Game name]
This one was a bit of a slog... having found out that I was only 1/3 of the way through, that was fine, as it's only a 2 mission difference overall, but beating Soviet Mission 5 took so bloody long! I fluffed up things a few times, and on my second or third from last game, I ended up fighting what I called a "war of attrition", but decided it'd take too long to win that way, so eventually, I managed to beat that mission after around 50 minutes, and I'll be glad to see the end of it, to be honest!

In any case, we made little progress this week, though I'm glad that we at least managed to make some progress! Hopefully, next week will be a bit less of a frustrating experience! Over the next couple of months, I hope to streamline things like I've been planning to do for a while, but I need to think about how to accomplish that. I do however need to allocate more planning time for a stream it seems, so that's the first change I'll make. The second change will be a scheduling grid for the games I plan to play, so I know what I'm doing and when, at least in terms of the main game. For the starter games, I might just alternate between Isaac and Barony, although I may also do another starter game to mix things up a little on the last stream of each month, which will also be something I'm going to provisionally call "Starter Game Sunday" (SGS), meaning that I check out any game that isn't normally in starter rotation though they are viable as starter games.

The thing with SGS as well is that repeats are also possible for the starter game, so I'm not limited to a limited selection of games like I do with regular sessions. I'll see what games are good for use as starter games, and then let you choose what I should play, though so far I can at least tell you that Delver and Streets of Rogue will be making an appearance. I'll start this from August so I have time to make a list of games that'll work, as well as also doing the scheduling table for each month as well, seeing as I want to also start using this from now on as well.

In any case, these changes are mostly under the hood, but they will make things easier for me moving forward, so it hopefully means less energy and stress for me... though I'll likely have to deal with some "teething issues" with the new systems I'm putting in!
