Orvium Introduces an Open Access Publishing Model for Scientific Purposes
Since the number of academic researches has been increasing every year, scholarly publishing industry has grown to keep up with the worldwide demand for scientific information. A number of large publishers typically impose the author-pay model. The debate on open access, however, has triggered to improve the remuneration system. Furthermore, excessively long response time should be addressed to make it appropriate for the purposes of publication. Orvium proposes a new approach to scientific publishing. The service will operate as an open-source social platform.
Orvium's publication model
The aim of the platform is to accelerate the publication process of manuscripts while assuring the high quality of submitted papers. In compliance with the standards associated with scientific publications, Orvium will follow the collective approach in peer reviews. This is necessary in order to eliminate the risks of unfounded rejections.
Orvium's model includes the activities of all participants of the platform and will ensure compliance with the following principles:
1. Open source license.
Authors will be able to determine the rights to publish and assign papers as well as reserve the rights to make changes. Among others, the system will offer to choose from a several public copyright licenses, such as a creative common license. Depending on the type of a license stipulated in the contract, Orvium will provide a free or paid access to the content.2. Peer reviews. The Orvium system for evaluating the quality of research includes a set of approaches assuring the excellence of research proposals, investigating methods, etc. Bias remains a major problem in data analytics. What Orvium intends to implement, is to assess the quality of papers with Big Data Analytics for peer review and citation ring.
3. Scientific support. Orvium will establish a platform for communication, which means, its members will be encouraged to ask for and provide support in methodological approaches and even contribute to scholar programs. That is, the scientific community will consult the stakeholders based on reward system.
A blueprint for journals
Orvium will provide its stakeholders with a decentralized infrastructure to found their journals. On order to enable their functionality and autonomy, particular Journal Tokens will be issued to enable interactions among the participants and cover the operational costs. Orvium will provide operational licenses for journals using the ORV tokens.
Another key focus of the platform is the so-called “Grey Literature”. This term includes semi-research materials that do not fully correspond to a strict set of scientific rules, and yet contain noticeable concepts and sustain a respectable level of methodology. Such a move will have chances to find a great number of supporters.

Scientific publishing seems to be an area outside the blockchain framework. This is related to the complex nature of issues and scholar policies, that can hamper any changes to the system. In this context, Orvium seeks way to offer a solution, that will address the needs of all members.
In compliance with its main target, Orvium seeks to enhance the author's influence in the publishing industry. However, the survival of the model proposed will largely depend on the number of participants who will be willing to put their efforts into a new system framework.
