Star Trek - In Concert

If you haven't seen it, I'll have to say that it is totally worth it. Star Trek - In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall is an experience that you won't soon forget.

To get there, we took the London Underground to King's cross, then transferred and got off somewhere near Hyde Park. it's a lovely walk through Hyde Park to the Royal Albert Hall. Interestingly it was probably shorter to walk on the sidewalk, but google maps took us right through the park. I can't complain! Sorry about the panorama artifacts in the image. You get the idea!

It's very relaxing in the park; there are students hanging out all over the place relaxing, reading and doing homework.. Well, there are a few kids smoking a little reefer but don't let that deter you. Check out this elaborate fence with gold elements.

Definitely one of my favorite things about England is how green it is. Sure it does rain a lot, but it's also sunny and beautiful a lot. Don't let people tell you that it's always miserable there. Totally not true!

So there are plenty of exits out of the park which really breaks up an otherwise less pleasant walk through the city.. Which isn't really terrible either! This is a crosswalk just outside of one of the park exits. We went for a lunch break with friends near here after the show.

So here is a picture of the Royal Albert Hall where we went to see the Star Trek - In Concert show. I was really in for a big surprise! My girlfriend had bought us tickets to celebrate her father's 70th birthday.

I knew that we were going to watch the first movie in the reboot Star Trek series, with the music track removed and a full orchestra playing it live - but I had no idea just how powerful the experience would be!

It is really something that must be experienced to fully understand. Words cannot do it justice. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are a phenomenally skilled group of musicians. Tight, yet full of expression and emotion. At some points during the movie you almost forget that there is a live orchestra playing, then suddenly you feel - not just hear - the brass rising, making all of the hairs stand up on your body. Then all of the instruments come in to delight the senses to the extreme. It's an emotional roller coaster!
