Weekend fun with the kids - 8 things I am grateful for
In our somewhat chaotic lives do we spend enough time with our family? I am definitely guilty of collapsing in a semi-comatose heap when I am home, however on this glorious warm South African autumn afternoon the kids and I had some fun. Life really is the simple things!
1. The gift of motherhood
Being a mother is one of the most difficult, exhausting and frustrating experiences ever, but also the most rewarding. Sometimes you want to kill them, other times you want to put them right back in your womb so they can never leave! It is a privilege to conceive, and one that is often taken for granted. It did not come easily to me, I wanted children in quick succession, but ended up having them spaced over 9 years. I have a daughter aged 18 years (@yogidream.scapes) and two sons aged 12 years and 9 years.
2. Love
Although this is not true in every case, my children were conceived in love. I am privileged to have been with my husband since I was 18 years old. (He who steadfastly refuses to be photographed.) And of course the love between parents and children.
3. Pets
Snuffles is my feral kitty rescue, who is blind in one eye. Being a feral cat he is not crazy about cuddling anymore, but when he does, he has no concept of personal space! Do not be deceived, in the picture above he is very annoyed!
4. Friends
Need I say more? I have very few friends as I am super selective and am quite happy spending time alone. But the friends I do have are treasures.
5. Family
Both my parents are alive and live with me, and I have a good relationship with both my sister and my brother. I know how precious this is, because my husband experience is sadly diametrically opposite to mine. My daughter just got engaged to her boyfriend this week and I am happy at how my family is expanding.
6. Time
Time is our most precious commodity. Due to all the long weekends I have been off work quite a bit, and have relished every moment. We have our own business and times are tough, so we work a lot. Simply having the time to take these photos was a treasure.
7. Fun
We need to take a lesson from our kids. A simple bottle of water can be so much fun when the whole family is involved. See Snuffles watching every move!
8. Sunshine
The weather is amazing in South Africa. It is one month away from winter and it is lovely and warm. Autumn and spring are my favourite seasons, as the weather is milder than the extremes of our winters and summers. This year I am very grateful for the rain we had. Parts of South Africa are still in the grips of a severe drought, but we have had a little relief.
