Retro Laptop Drive Replacements/Upgrades

Well, I'm now considering what I want to do to replace the HDDs of my 4 "vintage" laptops... going to probably end up doing some experimentation methinks!

I do have the idea of for the 2 P3 laptops at least, where I stick a dual Compact Flash to IDE adaptor into them both, and run a 2 or 4GB (8GB at most) CF card on one slot, and 64 or 128GB on the other, thus having a boot drive and also a storage drive, although I'm also thinking that an SD to CF converter for the storage drive might be an idea as well, seeing as 64GB CF cards aren't cheap!
