Little known places in Russia. Kungur - what to see and where to go

In Russia, many beautiful places with historical and natural monuments, which are of great interest to tourists. One of these cities is the ancient Ural Kungur.

This small town is located 60 kilometers from Perm, among the taiga forests. It was founded in 1648, has a long and glorious history, which is confirmed by the huge number of architectural monuments on its territory. At dawn in the 18th and 19th centuries, Kungur was obliged to trade tea. It was located at the intersection of the main trade routes from Asia to Europe, so many merchants established their trade missions here, settled with their families, built temples and mansions of incredible beauty. Located at the confluence of the rivers Iren and Sylva, Kungur, by right, can be considered one of the most picturesque cities of the Urals, and the whole country.
Temples of Kungur

Probably, it will be difficult to find in the territory of the Ural region another city with such a density of religious buildings in the urban development. And since the 90s of the last century, their active restoration has been carried out, and now almost all of them are in operation. Here are just the most significant of them:

  • St. Nicholas Cathedral;
  • The Tikhvin church;
  • All-Church Church;
  • Small Alekseevskaya church.
    Getting to Kungur during the morning or evening service, the traveler feels slowing down the time and can fully experience the beauty and goodness of the Orthodox rites.
    Museums of the city
    In the territory of such a small city there are several fairly large museums: the museum of local lore, the museum of the history of merchants and the museum "Music in stone". Here you can see everyday objects related to the foundation of the city and its formation as the merchant center of the Urals. The exposition devoted to the peasant uprising under the leadership of E.Pugachev will be interesting. And also a collection of minerals, highly artistic works of local pottery and stone-carving crafts. Particularly attractive for tourists are products made of selenite (a fine-grained variety of gypsum), they can be purchased in numerous souvenir shops located in the center of the city. In the pottery shop you can not only buy original dishes or funny clay figurines, but also get a master class for their making.
    Kungur cave
    However, the largest attraction of Kungur, attracting a huge number of tourists to the city, is a karst cave. In length, it ranks 6th in the world. Majestic halls with columns erected by nature itself, underground streams and lakes will make an indelible impression on people who visited this amazing place. Backlighting, legends and mysterious stories told by experienced guides will only enhance the effect of staying in Kungur. When going on a trip, you need to take warm clothes, because even in the summer in the cave there are minus temperatures.
    Kungur has a fairly developed tourist infrastructure. There are many hotels, guest houses, restaurants and cafes, and, as a rule, you can easily find the most democratic prices. A trip to the Russian outback will undoubtedly enrich the tourists with new impressions, will be informative and interesting.
