Game explanation

The game

BURNUP is an action paced hot potato board game incorporating unique game mechanics, strategy and wit. The game is played on a gameboard we create. Your mission is to flip the tiles on the gameboard and either get out before others do or to be the last tile standing. Every tile on the board has its own timer and becomes more expensive with each flip. Whenever a tile is flipped, the timer resets. But be careful, if your tile is not flipped before the time of your tile burns up, you will get burned and the tile will become inactive for the rest of the game. The owner of the last tile standing wins the accumulated BURNUP reward and the game comes to an end.Are you up for the challenge?

Vision

There are a lot of hot potato games out there (we won’t call you out) that are basically bubbles which will burst at some point. We find all of these games to be very similar to each other and have zero to no gameplay. We believe that these games are unsustainable for the long term. Instead of dumping the next clone, we wanted to create a game that we ourselves would also love to play. BURNUP is designed with the aim of stimulating activity within the game and to drive circulation among its users. We made BURNUP so that it is fun to play and sustainable for the long term.

Gameboard

The regular BURNUP gameboard starts with 20 tiles. The regular buy in for each tile starts at 0.01ETH.

Tile

Each tile has several elements:

Current price
Timer that accurately indicates when the tile becomes inactive (resets if flipped)
Color: simple indicator of time remaining
Shell: each tile has its own shell consisting of all connecting tiles in the vicinity

Time indicators

The tiles in BURNUP have two indicators of remaining time. The first is the numeric timer which can be found underneath the price. The second is a color indicator which changes over time. When you flip a tile, the tile starts with a green color (the tile on the left side of the picture). As time starts to run out it is slowly turning into red. If the timer reaches 0:00:00, the tile becomes inactive (the tile on the right side of the picture).

Shell

Each tile has its own shell consisting of the surrounding active tiles (red tiles in the picture). Whenever a tile is flipped, each tile in its shell receives a dividend. This goes both ways. If a tile within your shell is flipped, you receive a dividend (green tile with blue border in the picture).You can maximize your return by picking up some dividends before your tile is flipped. Your tiles that have become inactive still receive dividends. If a tile has a small shell or some shell tiles have never been bought, each of the flipped shell tiles receive a higher cut of the flipped amount. However, if a tile doesn't have any tiles in its shell, the current tile owner receives the full dividend that would normally go to shell tiles.

Circulation

Each flip will be 150% more expensive than the previous flip.Out of this new total (100%) roughly 19% is redistributed:

4% developer's cut (of which 37.5% is given back to the community as referral bonuses)
10% goes to the last man standing - BURNUP reward
5% goes to the shell (5%/amount of active shell tiles)

We will redistribute 37.5% of the developer's cut (1.5% of every flip) back to the community through a referral bonus because we love you and we want to go to the moon together. Effectively, this means that our cut is 2.5% and that you will receive 0.75% of every flip one of your referee makes and 0.75% one of your referee’s referee makes. And with every flip, we mean EVERY flip, whether today, tomorrow or when you live on the moon!

Winner

BURNUP has many winners. You win (earned money) if the tile that you own is re-flipped within the time limit. The last man standing receives the BURNUP reward (10% of every flip in the game). You can also just be a promoter and earn ETH with referrals.

How to get started

You need a browser that is able to interact with the Ethereum network. The easiest way to enable your browser to do so is by using the MetaMask extension for Chrome or Firefox. Once you’ve set up your MetaMask and logged in, you can immediately start playing on our website by clicking on the tile you want to flip.

Leaping

Everybody hates failed transactions and people sniping your purchases on the blockchain. That's why we've implemented leaping. Prevent failed transactions by leaping to the front!If someone snatches a tile right before you do, leaping enables you to snatch it right back. Leaping works by sending more Ether than required at the tile's current price. When you leap, any Ether that was not needed is immediately transferred back to your wallet.You can set up your max number of leaps by using the settings button above the game board. You can quickly turn the leaping feature on or off by clicking the flame button next to the settings button.
