At the Atibaia Flowers and Strawberries Festival, the most beautiful and interesting aspects of Japanese culture are present, bringing the public closer to this ancient culture, which arrived in the country together with Japanese immigration.
A bit of history
It was in 1908, with the first ship to arrive at the Port of Santos, that more than 700 Japanese began the saga of immigration. On board the ship Kasato-maru, they brought their culture, knowledge and customs to Brazil. The arrival of the Japanese immigrants was motivated by the interests of both countries: Brazil needed labor for the coffee cultivation, mainly in the State of São Paulo and in the north of Paraná; Already Japan, needed to alleviate the social tension in the country, caused by its high demographic index. During World War II, immigration virtually ceased, and returned with force from the end of the War.
By bilateral agreements, the new generation of immigrants was no longer cheap labor, they could attend schools and have their own businesses. Today Brazil is home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan.
Many were the difficulties faced by the Japanese when they came to Brazil. Main emphasis is given to communication. The cultural difference and customs also weighed on the adaptation of the newcomers.
Despite all the obstacles faced, the Japanese people, with their impetus of work and perseverance, have overcome the difficulties and prospered in every way, being today one of the most respected people and with a much-admired culture.
Flowers
Atibaia is responsible for 23% of the entire national flower production! With this information, you can already have an idea of what you can find at the Flower and Strawberry Festival of Atibaia. The flowers are a chapter apart, and enchant the public for the beauty, quality and variety of species. The exhibition pavilion, each edition, receives an exquisite themed decoration, delicately decorated with ornamental flowers that form splendid artistic arrangements and replicas of important monuments.
It is practically impossible to leave the event without at least a flower pot or green plant! In the commercial space, there are more than 2 thousand different items, and you can find beautiful examples of the most delicate flowers, such as orchids, azaleas, mini orchids, mini roses.
Strawberries
The most delicious strawberries are found at the Flower and Strawberry Festival of Atibaia! This tasty fruit belongs to the rosacea family, the same as roses and apples, is rich in vitamin C, has an antioxidant effect and contributes to the formation of collagen, which fortifies bones, teeth, skin and arteries.
With climate and soil suitable for cultivation, the city of Atibaia is one of the largest producers of fruit in the country and the largest in the entire State of São Paulo. More than 4 million feet are produced per season in the region. Atibaia was the first Brazilian city to receive certification with the PIMO (Integrated Strawberry Production) seal that is the result of the efforts and work of the strawberry growers, together with Embrapa, to grow special strawberries in a natural way. Recognized for all their quality and flavor, thousands of pounds of the product are marketed in every edition of the Fest.
